Don’t know if you caught this story on the BBC South news yesterday:
Fluoride in water fight commences
Here on the Isle of Wight a lot of our drinking water is piped over from the mainland – does this mean some of our water could have fluoride put into it with no consultation?
The photo shows teeth that have been damaged by too much fluoride.
What is so bad about fluoride? It can cause dental fluorosis (see photo), fluoride can cause musculo-skeletal arthritis, fluoride can affect the thyroid gland, cause fluoride poisoning. (links on this at the bottom of the page)

I cannot think why anyone would want to drink water poisoned by toxic industrial waste. The chemical used for fluoridation (hexafluorosilicic acid – HA) contains arsenic, lead and trace amounts of radioactive isotopes and is a registered Part 2 Poison under the Poisons Act 1972, it is a waste product of the phosphate fertiliser industry.
Apparently the children in Southampton have some of the worst teeth in the UK, surely it would make far more sense to give the children fluoride tablets rather than mass medicating all of us.
This is a quote from The Report of the Dept. of Health and Social Subjects, No. 41, Dietary Reference Values, Chapter 36, Fluoride, HMSO, 1996.
DENTAL FLUOROSIS is increasing significantly in areas with and without artificially fluoridated water. It is caused by over-exposure to fluorides from all sources, e.g. fluoridated water, fluoridated tooth-paste, mouth rinses, drops, tablets, gels, sealants and fluoridated school milk programmes. Fluorides are also found in foodstuffs, beverages (particularly tea), medicines, (e.g. Prozac), anaesthetics, pesticides, herbicides and in the polluted air we breathe. Fluorides accumulate in the body.
“No essential function for fluoride has been proven in humans.”

I’m all for it, anything that alleviates the amazingly bad dental care of British teeth. I’ve lived abroad for 15 years and its not until you see other peoples teeth many of which benefit from water fluoridation that you realise how bad it is here. British teeth are the laughing stock of the world. About time we entered the 21st century in this regard.

Hi David
So glad to be a source of amusement to so many people, I would put a big grin here if I did not have so many missing t e e t h 😉
I think I need to make my post clearer, the teeth in the picture of the top of the page are adult teeth that have been damaged by too much fluoride.
One of the main problems in the UK is that many people cannot afford to get their teeth fixed. Here on the Isle of Wight we have some of the lowest wages in the whole of the UK, many families are living on incomes of well under £20,000 a year, that is people who are working and not on benefits. With such low incomes dental treatment comes quite a way down on the list of priorities, that is even if you are lucky enough to have a dentist. There are still I believe hundreds of people on the Island who do not have a dentist due to the shortage of dentists available. People can’t afford the £198 for crowns, bridges and dentures let alone seeing a private dentist for things like implants at over £1000 each.
If they do add fluoride to the water supply I and many others will be claiming the cost of bottled drinking water and water filters capable of removing fluoride from Southern water or the government . Fluoride is only of benefit to young children and that is open to debate.
If the government announced that as there were too many rapists and sex offenders in the UK so bromide or some other anaphrodisiac would be added to the water there would be outrage. Adding fluoride is just as bad, it takes away personal choice. I am sure mass medication must be against human rights.
I think we will have to agree to differ on this subject, thanks for taking the time to comment.

Do you know of any way of making our voices heard in the public consultation?
So sorry – just realised you’ve already posted the details!
The main reason for using fluoride in municipal water supply is to prevent wear and tear on pipes . Fluoride forms a film coating inside pipes, which prevents corrosion. Dental benefit is only a cover up.

Fluoride is a poison and there can be no legitimate argument for putting poison into a water supply!
Fluoride was added to the water supply of Nazi death camps as it makes people more dosile. I am not in a death camp and I will not be made dosile.
When I asked my dentist about the level of fluoride in the water, even she was for the highest level of ingestion suggested by the health authority. She didn`t know it was toxic waste. We have no hope if those who SHOULD know the truth, don`t.
