Hi Jacque

Godshill Organics have tomato, courgette and squash plants for sale starting at 50p each. I have seen lots of houses selling plants when I have been out and about. Most of the garden centres around Arreton sell them. Car boot sales and fetes are another good source of plants.

Where do you live? Send me a message at ventnorpermaculture(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk and let me know perhaps we might be able to help. I know someone with a large rhubarb patch who would probably be happy to break off some bits of root for you.

Or start coming to our Isle of Wight Permaculture meetings, we swap plants and share seeds, help out in each others gardens etc.

I would take the damson tree back to them and ask for a refund. I know Thompsons (I think) next to Amazon World can be expensive but they do offer a three year guarantee on most of their perennials, shrubs and fruit bushes/trees. They also sell vegetable plants but they are expensive.

I think that it is dreadful that Forest View did not help and encourage you with your interest in growing veggies, they have lost you and everyone that you tell about your experience as customers.

There are usually some veg plants for sale at the Ventnor Community Cafe every Saturday morning from 10:30am - 1pm. I will be taking some of my excess tomato plants down there to sell this week (6th June). I think Ken has some spare squash plants to sell as well.

If you need any further advice or help please ask.

Hi Carmen

Please let us know how well this treatment works. I would be a little concerned that the olive oil would stop the leaves 'breathing' or even cook them when the weather is hot.

Really good to see someone offering advice on planting and gardening as well as selling seeds and plants. Very community spirited and very rare these days. :-)

This is a great site for help but can you recommend a place for vegetable plants - I have a few gaps and really want to grow a pumpkin + some rhubarb for next year?

Also Forest View Nursery - can't recommend the place at all as they were really unfriendly and unhelpful to me when I popped in keen to get started on my veggie patch. I know I'm new to veggie growing but I love plants and actually think I'm half decent in nurturing stuff, but they really exploited my inexperiance and sold me a damson bush as needing a bit of TLC but really it was dying and is now a sad twig despite my best efforts. I will tell everyone to avoid the place in future!

My Swiss Chard has been affected the same way by leaf miners. What I did was spray it with a mixture of 1 tablespoon of real soap (with lye in it), 2 tablespoons of olive oil mixed together in a small spray bottle. Shake it up until all of the soap has dissolved.
