Scroll down the page for Ventnor Permaculture and
IW Permaculture Meeting dates.
We are in the far south of the UK, if you want to see where we are put ‘Ventnor, Isle of Wight,’ into Google Maps.
Ventnor Permaculture Group was formed about a year ago by local members of the Isle of Wight group, which has been going for about 3 years, and was started by people who attended a permaculture course at Aldermoor Farm. I hope it will become the first of many local groups on the Island, forming a network with the Isle of Wight group as its hub.
We would love to see other towns and areas forming their own local permaculture groups – cuts down on travelling and makes it far easier to exchange plants, seeds and help each out out. Don’t forget to go to the IW permaculture meetings though.

Permaculture Explained
Can you step outside your door and pick fresh salad every day of the year with very little effort, and fresh fruit even in the winter?
Have you reduced your water and fuel bills and done your bit towards reducing climate change?
These are just some of the things you can achieve with permaculture.
There are lots of long explanations of what it is about, and you can find more on this site, but for me it is simple: Do you care about the earth, and about people?
Are you prepared to act on those beliefs?
If you are, then joining your local permaculture group is a great way to meet others like you, to learn from each other, and work together to improve your life.

Permaculture History
Permaculture means permanent culture;
originally permanent agriculture/horticulture, later broadened to include far more than that. The word was first coined by Bill Mollison in the 1970′s. He was an Australian ecologist at the time, disillusioned with current farming and growing methods, and intent on improving them. Since then, permaculture has become a world-wide movement, with a network ranging from national organizations to local groups like this one.
This page has the following sub pages.
Is there a permiculture meeting on the island this Saturday the 6th September and if so where is it?
Thanks for your help
Peter
Hi Peter
Have only just found out where it is and have posted on the front page about it.
Have sent you an email with the full details.

Hi Vetnor! Fantastic to see links to our little Ecovillage from the Isle of Wight! I’ve emailed Penn Taylor, the author. He’ll be thrilled, I imagine.
Consider adding “Gaia’s Garden” by Toby Hemenway to your list of Permaculture books. It’s my absolute favorite – every time I read it I can hardly stop myself from running out into the yard with a shovel and creating swales here and there…
Keep up the good work!
Best,
Alline Anderson
PS If you’re ever in the States, you MUST come visit!
Hi Alline
Great to hear from you, I shall follow Penn’s advice as soon as my wood burner is fitted.
It looks like your Ecovillage is a great place to live and you have so much space. Most of us here have quite small yards to work with so we have to pack as much in as possible.
The ‘Gaia’s Garden’ book looks really good, will put it on my Christmas list. If anyone wants to have a look there are some excerpts from it here: http://patternliteracy.com/ggtoc.html
Sadly have not visited the States since the late 70′s and can’t see any travel happening anytime soon but would love to come back again. If you are over this way come visit.
Angie
Hi There!
Searching for information about Clerodendrum bungei I found your blog. (Very powerfull connection…)
I’m one permaculture friend from south Brazil.
Here one suggestion of topic to you:
The wonderous Moray site of Inca permaculture in Perú.
Moray
Located some 53 km northwest of Cusco, Moray exhibits an admirable Inca experimental farm, where a natural depression has been transformed into enormous terraces superimposed in concentric form in the shape of a coliseum Achieving up to 150 metres in height levels, this technology allowed the old Inca farmers to study the effects of altitude on different plants and create diverse microclimates to experience and to obtain a variety of plants.
It is in fact an ancient agricultural laboratory. Each terrace possesses contention walls which are connected by a complex system of artificial channels of irrigation that again are a sample of incredible Inca technology.

Very professional web site – except that the horizon on the splendid sunset photograph is not horizontal, can you fix it?
peter
Hi Peter
Sorry, but the sunset is only a side issue of the photo. For us the building in the middle of the pic and the bay are the most important parts of the photo as they show where we are, if I straightened the horizon the building would be wonky.
Angie
Hi Angie,
You have quite an interesting blog and site here. I would like to invite you to add a link to this (and even individual great posts) to the list at http://www.squidoo.com/groups/growing_food – a group that is all about growing food.
Cheers,
Danny
Hi Danny
Just had a quick peek at your site and it looks very interesting, will add a link to it as I am sure other people will like it too. Sorry for delay your comment went into the spam file which I don’t check very often.
Angie
Hi
Is it possible to be emailed about upcoming events please?
Thank you
Hi Sandra
You can be added to the Ventnor Permaculture and Isle of Wight Permaculture email lists that are sent out when there are any events coming up. At the moment there have not been any Isle of Wight permaculture events and Ventnor Permaculture have been meeting at the Ventnor Community Cafe every Saturday morning over the winter. Send an email to ventnorpermaculture(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk to be put on either or both lists.
Angie
Ho Ventnorpermaculture,
I’m curious as to why my nom-de appears on your website.
You haven’t confused me with someone who can grow stuff, have you?
Could be because there is a feed of items from Ventnor Blog at the bottom of the page. You are getting famous!
Many thanks — I ought say, impressed with your site. I will put this to my facebook wall.
Aha found you !
Hi,
im shortly to be moving back to the island after studdying permaculture on the mainland, can you please send me details or links as to your upcoming meetings, groups and courses? id like to gradually become involved locally,

Andy
Hi Andy
Will pass your email address on to Ken so that you can be added to the email lists of what is on. Not that there is a lot at the moment. Most of the members of Ventnor Permaculture meet every Saturday at Ventnor Community Cafe, 1 Albert St, Ventnor, PO38 1DS 10:30am – 1pm where some sell their produce, plants, swap seeds and ideas etc You would be made very welcome if you want to meet them there.
