The Ventnor Community Cafe of course!
3 Albert St, Ventnor, Isle Of Wight PO38 1DS
Every Saturday 11am – 1pm
There are also Community Learning courses held there for more information see this feature on Ventnor Blog.
A wide range of courses are offered through this project centre. All are indoors. I wondered if Ventnor Permaculture might offer a course in scything, along the lines of Brighton Permaculture Trust
…who were featured tonight on BBC South (http://www.bbc.co.uk/southtoday/) showing their course:
“Learn how to cut the grass and weeds without the need of a noisy fossil fuel burning lawnmower or strimmer. The course will cover everything you need to know on how to use and maintain a scythe, leaving you with the skills and knowledge needed to mow anything from a small lawn to a meadow and even scrub land.”

The people involved spoke of the gentle exercise in scything, almost tai chi in style….
It looked quite lovely in action..and a very agreeable form of outdoor exercise.
The Isle of Wight would lend itself to this perhaps..??
Hi Mark
Thanks for a reminder about the courses.
The Brighton scything course sounds very interesting, very environmentally friendly too. I will ask at the permaculture meeting on Sunday if anyone would want to run one. Although I am not sure the PTB would be that keen on it in this nanny state we now live in, mention scythes and they would probably want us to take out public liability insurance costing I dread to think how much!
