All the plants and shrubs are being sold off so they can concentrate on growing organic vegetables, which is a far more enjoyable and fulfilling for the people who work there, rather than concentrating on watering the hundreds of plants that are now on sale.
I do mean hundreds, I have just come back from there. You will find shrubs large and small, perennials, climbers, cactus, exotics, planted up baskets and house-plants all being sold at least half price.
Sunnycrest Nursery is part of Osel Enterprises, a private limited company and fully independent registered charity, which was created to give disadvantaged groups of people the chance to maximise their potential. Formed in February 1988 to provide training, work experience and employment opportunities for people with a disability living on the Isle of Wight.
Wight Crystal Spring Water is perhaps Osel’s best known product, the bottling plant has sheltered workshops status and offers work experience and training opportunities to 24 people.
Work and trainee placments are also offered at Island Images in Newport and the Shanklin Osel Charity Shop in Regent Street.
